Keyboard navigation

Keyboard navigation is a feature that allows you to navigate through the entire questionnaire, select and submit your answers by using only your keyboard.

1. Activate Keyboard navigation

To enable your users to navigate through your survey without a mouse, go to the Extra Options tab, scroll all the way down to select Keyboard navigation and then toggle the button.

The feature will not block already existing keyboard functionality when disabled, but will add additional keyboard functionality when enabled:

• Visual “Focus” indication
• Ability to select slide buttons, like slide navigation buttons (next & previous), “complete” button,“back to start” button on the final screen
• Ability to select answer on certain question types

2. Supported question types

If you would like to make your survey keyboard accessible, then the next would be to use the supported question types:

2.1 Text choice

A Text choice question is used when you ask a multiple choice question and present the possible answers to your respondent.

2.2 Image choice

Use an Image choice when you want to ask a multiple choice question and present the possible answers to your respondent by using images or GIFs

2.3 Form

Form questions are mostly used for demographic questions, to ask for a name, last name, email etc.

2.4 Number slider

A Number slider question displays the numbers on a scale form one side to another so respondents can decide which number they most closely relate to or agree with.

2.5 Text slider 

A Text slider question displays the statements on a scale from one side to another, so respondents can decide which statement they most closely relate to or agree with.

3. Keyboard instructions

Here is a list with the buttons that will help you navigate your survey:

TAB / TAB + SHIFT	SPACEBAR	ENTER	ARROW KEYS
Navigate between the focusable elements currently visible.	When a button (start, next, prev, etc.) is focussed will trigger that buttons action.	When a button (start, next, prev, etc.) is focussed will trigger that buttons action.	When not focussed on an answer of a question, using the left and right keys will allow you to navigate back and forth in the questionnaire.
	When an answer of a question is focussed (e.g. for text choice or image choice) will select that answer.	When a link is focussed will cause that link to be opened in the browser.	When an answer of a question is focussed will allow you to move/change the selected answer(s).
	When a dropdown form field is focussed, it will open the dropdown.	When a dropdown form field is focussed will open the dropdown.
	When a date form field is focussed will open a date selection modal when available.

What's next?

• Widgets are different formats of content that you can include in your survey. It is a way of displaying data, for example, in graphs or tables, based on the respondent's answer. You can include variables in the data fields of a widget, to display customized data from the responses.

• Auto Skip will automatically slide to the next question once the answer has been selected by the respondent. You can also choose if you want to have respondents click Complete to finish the questionnaire or if it will automatically complete once the final question has been answered.

• Randomize questions means that all of your questions will be shuffled in a random order every time someone opens the questionnaire. This can be useful for a quiz when you don't want respondents to look at each others' answers, as everyone will have their questions in a different order.
